Sumitomo Chemical to Undergo Capacity Expansion for High-Purity Chemicals
In an announcement made on Tuesday, Japan’s chemical major Sumitomo Chemical said that the company was expanding its production capacity for high-purity chemicals which is used in the manufacturing of semiconductors.
As per the plan the company will be installing
new production lines for the production of high-purity Sulfuric Acid. The
capacity for high-purity Sulfuric Acid will be doubled at the company’s site in
Ehime, Japan.
Another production line will be installed
for increasing the production capacity for high-purity Ammonia price. The
capacity expansion for high-purity Ammonia market demand prices will be carried out at the
company’s wholly owned subsidiary Dongwoo Fine-Chem Co’s site in Iksan, South
Korea.
High purity chemicals are used in the
production of semiconductors. They mainly find application in precision
cleaning.
The expanded capacities are expected to
come online and start commercial production by 2024 in Ehime and in the second
half of the 2023 fiscal in Iksan.
As per ChemAnalyst, “the demand for high-purity
chemicals is expected to grow at a healthy rate on the back of the growing
demand for semiconductors which are experiencing demand growth due to the rise
in the demand of 5G phones and other consumer electronics. Increased demand for
personal computers and data centres are also among the major drivers for growth
in the demand of semiconductors.”
