Firmness in the price of Acrylamide amid strong demand for wastewater treatment chemicals

Strong demand for Wastewater treatment chemicals resulted in constant firmness in the prices of Acrylamide in the global market. Growing awareness over water management and treatment and increasing stress by the governing bodies has made water treatment a potential growth segment for Acrylamide prices of global market.

Acrylamide is industrially produced by the hydration of acrylonitrile. Acrylamide is widely used in water treatment as its derivative is polyacrylamides which is majorly used in Water treatment as it has characteristics of varying water solubility. The bulk production and consumption of Acrylamide is concentrated in mainland China, the USA, and Germany.

In China, production activity was halted due to the implementation of Zero Covid policy amidst pandemic Covid 19. Under zero covid policy, strict restrictions have been imposed on production activity in the country along with port congestion at several container gateway like Ningbo. Meanwhile, the prices are observed to be stable in China as the demand from the water treatment sector is increasing as companies have indulged in new ventures or announced plans for sustainability.

In Germany, the demand for Acrylamide showcased a surge with the announcement of a new research project named TrinkXtrem, which may start between April 12 and 13, 2022. The water supply companies from various regions in Germany are cooperating with research institutions of the federal government and the federal states. Moreover, USA Acrylamide also witnessed a firmness in the prices due to government initiatives for water treatment and management. In line with the substantial demand for wastewater chemicals, Acrylamide prices marginally surged by 2% since February in the USA.

As per ChemAnalyst, “Acrylamide pricing is expected to observe a continuous surge as the demand for water treatment chemical remains robust in the global market in upcoming months.” The majority of Acrylamide is produced worldwide, which is either utilized as a chemical intermediate or a monomer to produce Polyacrylamide. Polyacrylamide and Acrylamide are consumed for portable water clarification, in municipal and in industrial effluent treatment.

Agilyx Partners with Kumho Petrochemical on Chemical Recycling Plant in South Korea
